Real Data • Statistics Projects for Key Stage 3 - Smile Mathematics

This is a useful resource with six themed projects (Average Student, Environment, Fast Hand, Sport, Transport and World Statistics) each with six levelled hypotheses on a teachers' planning grid, and a Student planning sheet to go along side each hypothesis. All the projects are supported by a data file contained on a CD ROM (except Fast Hands, which requires students to gather their own data using the stopwatch program provided).

The student sheets provide support rather than guidance, with scope for students ranging from National Curriculum Levels 3 to 7.

With the current concerns for GCSE coursework this seems a good resource for a KS3 mathematics department. It is in line with the data handling cycle and other themes coming through from the National Strategy and there are links and cross references to the Framework at the back of the book, which are useful for planning.
