These books are designed for your crucial C/D borderline candidates at GCSE who you know have the capability to get that C grade, but through apathy or lack of confidence might not quite make it. At a first glance, these workbooks look easily accessible, if a little dated inside. They are broken up with basic examples and revision facts, regularly interspersed with questions. The answers are included in the middle and the work gets progressively harder, covering the key topics needed for the Intermediate syllabus.
For students who need a very guided approach, and will only realistically get around to revising a few key topics, these are very useful books indeed, and moreover are very affordable at only £2.99 each. However, for those diligent students who are going to want to buy a complete set, this soon mounts up to quite a hefty £21. The topics covered do also go past the C grade work, with the Algebra book covering Simultaneous Equations and Quadratics; perhaps more examples of examination questions at the C/D grade level would have been more useful for the targetted audience.
I used these books with a GCSE resit group, who were really focussing on getting that crucial C grade, and they proved popular and manageable. Students were able to engage once more with topics that they thought they had left behind months ago, and really felt that they were able to understand them. For use with a small group, or for independent revision to increase confidence, these books really are a very good starting point.
