Resources OnLine
The Association of Teachers of Mathematics believes in providing teachers with the resources to help them develop their mathematics teaching in creative and broad-thinking ways. The ultimate aim being to develop a creative and thinking approach in mathematics learners.
ATM publishes a wide range of resources and materials. They all have one thing in common: they are written by teachers for teachers and for learners.
Just one of the ways we support these aims is to provide FREE resources on our website for teachers to download or use online in the classroom.

Remember SLIMWAM?
SLIMWAM was a set of programmes produced for the old BBC Micro. It included ‘Counter’ and ‘Monty’. Many teachers have asked whether they still exist. Well...they have returned to ATM Resources all ready for your interactive whiteboard.
Mathematics Posters
A series of mathematics posters developed by David Pavett covering a number of themes from ‘Makers of Mathematics’ to ‘Maths in the Real World’ and lots more beside.
Gaps and Misconceptions Tool
The Gaps and Misconceptions Tool is an interactive, web-based diagnostic tool to support teachers in dealing with children’s gaps and misconceptions in maths.
This tool was written and created by the Devon Primary Maths Team (part of Devon Learning and Development Partnership) and is made available, with thanks, on the ATM website.
The Gaps and Misconceptions Tool deals with three key areas that the QCA regularly reports are areas of weakness exhibited by KS1 and KS2 children in end of KS SATs and optional QCA tests: subtraction, division and FDPRP (fractions, decimals, percentages, ratio and proportion). The Gaps and Misconceptions Tool includes guidance papers on what makes these areas difficult to teach.
The Gaps and Misconceptions Tool links objectives related to the three areas to appropriate probing questions to support diagnosis of specific misconceptions or gaps. These, in turn, are linked to teaching images to address the difficulties that children are encountering.
Grid Algebra Resources
Grid Algebra: learn number concepts and pre-algebra at KS2-KS4. What is more, it supports more developed algebra ideas as well.
Resource bank for Grid Algebra
Video and Films
A collection of old and new films, animations and video including three films made originally by Trevor Fletcher. Including some very simple and straightforward interactive Flash animations.
Dynamic Geometry
Dynamic geometry resources: Brocard Point; Introducing Geometer’s Sketchpad; Modelling Motion; Khayyam’s Cubic Equation; Alternative Proof in Dynamic Geometry; Omat Khayyam and Dynamic Geometry, Steiner’s Amazing Porism.
Convex Polyhedra
The designer and author of Convex Polyhedra with Regular Faces and booklet Shapes in Space published by ATM has created supporting web pages for this excellent resource.
See the Polyhedra resources here...
Slavonic Abacus
The Slavonic abacus can be used to develop helpful images of number, partitioning, addition, complementation, and multiplication. Computer simulation, display cards and article about using the Slavonic Abacus.
My World
My World screens can contain pictures, text, animation and sound. The program is very simple to learn and use, yet is powerful enough to be a most effective learning tool.
We have a set of screens to be used with the software My World 3 on a PC. My World is aa They were created by students as part of a teacher training course.

Points of Departure
Points of Departure is a great publication from ATM. Packed full of little ideas that can grow into great investigations. We provide some of the simple, yet stimulating examples here.

Tessellation and Symmetry from Bob Burn
This booklet on friezes is the second on symmetry in the plane. The first being "Sorting by symmetry, patterns with a centre".
The learning idea is to look at and make figures, notice what they have in common and argue about it.
Now with a new sequel: ‘Wallpaper and Tessellations’
Friezes & Wallpaper and Tessellations is here...

Reviews
We have an ever-growing collection of reviews of books, equipment, software, media and websites. Our reviews are written by ATM members and have the guiding principles of ATM in mind when they are appraising.
How Tos
A gradually building series of instructional and useful guides for using equipment, websites (including the ATM website) to make life just that little bit easier for busy teachers.

New Year Investigations
Alan Parr has sent us these investigation ideas based around the number 2008 or 8 to share them with colleagues. They are, of course, adaptable to any (new) year.

Circumference and Area
Tandi Clausen-May provides some Powerpoint presentations designed to help visual learners with concept of, and the calculation of, the circumference and the area of a circle and the area of rectangles, triangles and parallelograms.

The Jackdaw Files
Jackdaw, aka James Robinson: “everyone can do mathematics, we learn best by engaging with tasks, it is important to sometimes not find the answer”.
Here are some of his interactive presentations: SlideShapes deconstructs a square; Hex; Great Number Game; Encipher inspired by Simon Singh.
ATM Probability Pack • The Animal Game
The Probability Pack contains practical hands-on activities, away from the usual dice and coin tossing experiments, that develop an understanding of probability.
Spreadsheet file and Game Board for the Animal Game is available, part of the Probability Pack available now from ATM.
Quilting
Quilts come in many guises. They may be created to illustrate or celebrate a particular event and contain individual panels relating to that event or they may be constructed from ‘blocks’ using colour, position and shapes to produce an overall design.
