Book and CD by Jill Mansergh
It Makes you Think provides a selection of activities to encourage children to think, by themselves, with a partner, in a group or as a class. This photocopiable book comes with a CD of resources which may be printed out by the purchasing institution.
Shaping up is a series of activities working with a variety of shape cards, suitable for children throughout the primary range.
Plonker boards can be used for questioning by the teacher in a mental oral starter or by children challenging each other with questions.
Clued up is a series of collaborative problem solving activities for children, - these differ from those elsewhere as they have resources to use alongside the problems.
Colour sudoku is a series of sudoku boards which can be used with multilink cubes, supplemented by suggestions as to how to encourage children to reason and to articulate their reasoning.

Review: Liz Woodham
“I used some of the ‘It Makes You Think’ materials with my colleagues. We became so absorbed that in the end we only tried two of the five or so I’d prepared: making the square with the nine Set 4 cards and looking at the combinations of the Set 2 cards. We loved the latter in particular: the requirement to systematize and the way we were asking ourselves questions. It was great! We were also able to think of simplifications and extensions which pleased us!”
Liz Woodham(née Pumfrey) was using the material while working with other colleagues on developing resources for NRICH. Liz and her colleagues work with teachers and pupils on a regular basis.
